Why Open RFQ Queues Need Aging And Next-Action Fields
Open RFQ queues become more useful when aging, owner, blocker, and next-action fields show which requests need attention first.
An open RFQ count by itself gives the team very little direction. Ten open requests may be healthy if each one has a clear owner and next step. Three open requests may be risky if no one knows why they are stuck.
Aging helps separate normal in-progress work from stalled work. The team should be able to see how long a request has been open, how long it has waited on a supplier response, and how long it has been sitting after a quote returned.
Next-action fields make the queue operational. Instead of only showing status, the record should show whether the next step is to call a supplier, ask for a print revision, approve an alternate, review margin, or follow up with the customer.
This matters for distributors and buyers because RFQs compete for attention. Clear aging and next action fields help teams choose the work that is most likely to affect delivery, customer confidence, or revenue.
A useful queue reports the work and helps the team decide what to touch next.
