Tooling RFQ Intake Checklist For Buyers
A buyer-side checklist for submitting clearer tooling RFQs with the context distributors and suppliers need.
A tooling RFQ is easier to quote when the first request carries enough context to route correctly. Buyers do not need to write a long technical document, but they should include the details that affect fit, timing, and supplier response quality.
A strong intake record usually includes part material, operation type, machine context, current tool or process, annual or job quantity, tolerance concern, target lead time, attached files, and whether approved alternates are acceptable.
The buyer should also identify the decision path. If engineering, purchasing, production, or quality all need to review the recommendation, that approval context should be visible early rather than discovered after quotes arrive.
Clear intake reduces clarification loops. It helps distributors route to the right supplier, helps suppliers respond with fewer assumptions, and helps internal teams compare options with the same starting information.
The goal is not paperwork. The goal is to give every participant enough context to quote with confidence and follow up without repeatedly asking for the basics.
